The following major trends can be identified in the world around us:

1. Back to Basics. Profit continues to be the result of revenue minus costs. Due to globalisation and economical setback everyone is competing for the same customers, and pricing and volumes are under pressure. Focus is therefore shifting towards costs: do the right things, and do the things right. Separate side issues from the essentials, implement effective and efficient processes & structures.

2. Change & learning organisations. In life only one thing is permanent, and that’s change. Individuals, but also teams & organisations need to learn continuously to be able to keep pace with the changes they are facing every day. An organisation can only learn when the individuals inside of it are willing and able to learn. Individual abilities and motivators become more important: what’s in it for me? The question is therefore: how to get and keep my people alert, unbiased and ready to change?

3. Diversity / multicultural. The importance of establishing a better balance between feminine and masculine talents & forces within the organisation starts to be more recognised, by both management and politicians. Next to this the generation of highly qualified & trained resources is ready to take leading roles within our society. Both groups stand for standards & values that might conflict with the existing, conservative and masculine culture within organisations. Key words are balance and integration.
